The base model for QlikView is the local client. In this situation, the QlikView Windows Client software is installed locally and documents are opened locally (or via the network).
In a situation of multiple users (more than 2-4) it is advisable to move towards a client-server solution. This allows for one central point were informations is stored and managed (refresh etc). Topics such as security can only be managed properly in a client-server architecture. |
|
While deploying in a client-server architecture, the QlikView Server software is installed on a Windows Server operating system. The QlikView server comes in two versions: a Small Business Edition and a Enterprise Edition.
In order to use QlikView documents, one needs a “Client Acces License” (CAL). There exists 4 different CALs, as described underneath.
Which version is relevant, is predominantly determined by the needed functionality with regard to security, deployment possibilities and the needed amount of users. Credon can advise you about the relevant version for your specific context.
Each QikView server requires an amount of CALs. There is a minimum order depending on the type of QlikView server that has been chosen:

QlikView Small Business Edition Server |
|
The Small Business Server is designed for a small amount of users (limited to 25 users). Security and access control is limited to Microsoft Active Directory. This is the standaard Windows Security system that allow system administrators to manage access in the Windows network of the company. No support for anonymous users (typically external users). No support for shared servers for load-balancing or fail-over purposes. |
|
QlikView Enterprise Edition Server |
|
The QlikView Enterprise Server is designed for big user amount (no restrictions on amount of users). Integration with 3rd party authentication for Security and access controle is possible. Annonimous users (typically external users) are allowed. Users can be distributed over different servers for load-balancing or fail-over purposes. Hughe added value for the Enterprise Edition Server, is the 'collaboration' possibility: this allows for endusers to create their 'own' QlikView objecten on standaard available documents, and 'share' them with other users.

QlikView Publisher Enterprise |
|
QlikView Publisher, an optional module for QlikView Server, is an administration and management tool that provides a single control point for the company's QlikView analytics applications and QlikView reports. Administrators can schedule, distribute and manage security and access for QlikView applications and QlikView reports across the enterprise. With QlikView Publisher, companies can balance the business need for widespread distribution of analytics functionality and reports with the requirement to maintain centralized control and synchronization of sensitive corporate data.

Delivering the right information to the right users at the right time – and in the right format
Analysis is now a critical success factor for any organization. As the use of business analysis spreads throughout the organization, controlling the distribution of analysis and reporting becomes increasingly important. With QlikView Publisher, you are in full control of the distribution of your company's QlikView applications and QlikView reports. QlikView Publisher automates the data refresh process for QlikView. In addition, it ensures applications and reports are distributed to the correct users, in the correct format when they need them. With QlikView Publisher, you can be sure the right information reaches the right user at the right time – and in the right format.
Data security control
QlikView Publisher ensures users only have access to documents and reports related to their data. Based on the security criteria set by an administrator, QlikView Publisher will slice a QlikView application into multiple QlikView documents and then distribute the fi nalized document to all authorized users. QlikView Publisher can also slice and distribute QlikView reports in PDF format to authorized users by email. This ensures users only have access to the data that is truly theirs.
Enterprise report distribution
The addition of PDF report distribution via email to QlikView Publisher enables QlikView to meet enterprise report distribution requirements. Simply build a QlikView report on top of your existing QlikView analysis application and use the QlikView Publisher Distribution Wizard to reload the data, generate the PDFs and deliver them direct to your users inbox.

Secure access to business analysis
QlikView Publisher integrates directly with an organization's existing security model to control user access rights, making administration and distribution of business analysis and reports secure and efficient. With QlikView Publisher, it is easy to create routines which guarantee the quality, timeliness and accuracy of your company's decision support.
Built to meet today's scalability and manageability challenges
QlikView Publisher is built using Web Service technology to enable scalability and resilience. Services can be grouped to provide load-sharing and resilience. SNMP is provided to allow integration with Enterprise Monitoring tools. QlikView Publisher Tasks can, if needed, be triggered by external Enterprise Scheduling tools using Web service calls. |
|
The possibilities that QlikView mobile and offline offers, are remarkable. After having synchronised the QlikView-application data at the office, users have complete access to in-memory analysis and reports, while 'on the road'. A user can work offline with a 'downloaded' QlikView document, as if he/she is still connected to the QlikView Server.
